Shoes65 might like to try this out before stepping onto the Lycian Way.

The road over the mountains from Fethiye to Kaya (Ghost Village) is a great walk of about 15K.

Take the road out of Fethiye that goes past the tombs and the Crusader fort. It's a bit of a climb (mostly on the road); but, as you start to descend there's a nice route you can take down which takes you through the forest.

As you start your descent keep a lookout to your right (towards Kaya) for the original road in the forest. When you find it, take it down in the trees towards the village. It meanders through the trees and comes out into the fields around Kaya.

In the village go to Muzzies (hate the name, Mustafa) for something to eat and splash about in his swimming-pool.

I've lived in Kaya Koyu for 2 years and have been doing a bit of walking in the area.

If anyone wants to join me, and my mate Brian who also lives in the village, for a walk, contact me through the forum.

Our walks usually last for between 4 and 6 hours. Although we can take you out for a shorter one if you're not as fit as us Mountain Goats ! wink ;)

If you are interested in taking the route from Fethiye to Kaya I can also give you some guidance. For instance, if you go past the crusader fort and fork left at the junction, you will see an old cistern on your right ( this is a white-painted, round building with a conical roof ). Cross over the road and also over the dried up river-bed and continue walking up the path parallel to the road. This path crosses the road at a bend. Continue up through the trees following the yellow and red bars marked on the stones and trees.

The path crosses the road again by a fresh water spring. To the right of the spring you will see the old road. Choose this route and it will take you up the hill on the opposite side of the valley to the road. This is a much more pleasant route with plenty of shade and some beautiful views of Fethiye Bay.

The old road eventually joins the new at the summit and you can continue into Kaya.

There are also another couple of alternative routes. If you'd like information on them please contact me through this forum.

Valerie,

There are several walks in the area of varying difficulty.

I would be happy to guide your group,on an unofficial basis, during their stay in Ovacik.

Unfortunately there are no maps of the area available to the general public that are suitable for walkers.

Please contact me at kaya.koyu.walker@gmailcom

Best wishes
