We would like to go to Turkey this year - never been before.
We would like :
genuine flat walking distance to a beach (preferably sandy)
low rise development
ground floor overlooking communal pool/garden area
2 or 3 bedrooms
self catering or aparthotel with possibility to cook.
We are flexible on area, but like the look of Calis/Fethiye (not sure why).
Any advice on location much appreciated.
Any advice on suitable property with 2 weeks availability in August even more appreciated.
Many thanks
Val

Hi Jackie
I think you would have a wonderful time in Turkey - the people are fantastic and the scenery spectacular. There are no high rise in the resorts around the Fethiye area so that wouldn't be a problem but flat walk to sandy beach is a bit more difficult. Olu Deniz is by far the best beach area, but there's little self catering in OD itself - most of the apartment accomodation tends to be in Hisaronu or Ovacik ( a short Dolmus ride away). Calis is flat with lots of sc accomodation but the beach certainly isnt sandy. An alternative is to stay in accomodation built by Nicholas Homes. All these apartments have the use of a free bus which runs daily to the privately owned Genc beach which is sandy. You would have all the convenience of Hisaronu or Ovacik on your doorstep and sandy beach available with little effort. We have an apartment in Hisaronu. It isnt available until the end of August, but you might want to take a look at the link to get a bit more info on the area etc.http:// wwwholidaylettingscouk/3783 Good luck with your search and where ever you choose in Turkey I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

Val,
Thanks everso much for your reply. I had looked at the Hillside Apartments but decided they were too far from the beach. We didn't really want to get onto a bus every time we wanted to go to the beach. We are starting to see we might have to do that in Turkey. I'd say this would normally put us off but we've heard so many fantastic thing about the people and their hospitality it might be worth putting up with. How long would is it by minibus to the beach and is that private beach serviced (loos, umbrellas, food, etc). I don't know where it is in relation to the main beaches. Also the Calis beach looks lovely, but is the shell/shingle mix uncomfortable for the kids feet ? Does it change to sandy once it gets to the water's edge ? They love the idea of water taxis which is maybe what first attracted us to Calis. Any more info would be much appreciated.

Hi Jackie - I know how you feel - sandy beach was always our priority before we went to Turkey ! The dolmus (local bus)goes to Olu Deniz literally every few minutes and takes about 10 minutes from Hisaronu - about 20 from Ovacik. Genc beach is landside of the Blue Lagoon. The free bus to Genc (will even take lilos, and inflatable dolphins etc, in the luggage compartment) picks up outside all apartments built by Nicholas Group in Hisaronu ( and seperate bus covers Ovacik)and then heads down to the beach - it takes about 15 mins in total. The bus goes at 10 and 11 and returns at 4 or 5. Genc has showers, toilets, sunbeds and umbrellas, restaurant and even a masseur - £10 for a 50 minute massage under a pergola on the beach! HEAVEN! The water is warm, clear for snorkling and safe for sleeping on a lilo! I only went to Calis once so I cant tell you much about the beach. No doubt someone with more knowledge of Calis will be able to give you some more info but I remember it as stony rather than shingle/sand, painfull on the feet and a bit mucky. Regardless of where you choose you can be sure that if you've got children they will be given 'star' treatment in Turkey!

Hi Jackie,

My recommendation would also be to stay in Hisaronu. That way you can have the best of all worlds. You can have all restaurants shops etc on your doorstep, and a 5 to 10 minute bus ride will take you to Olu Deniz and 15 minutes or so bus ride to Fethiye and the harbour etc. You should try a beach at Olu Deniz which was called Bobs Beach but has now changed its name and I cant remember what it is but everyone will know which one you are talking about ! There is an apartment hotel called Turkish Paradise Hotel which you should be able to find on the internet and has easy access to everything and has recently undergone refurb and is looking lovelyhappy :)Whatever you decide to do I am sure you will have a fantastic time wink ;)

Have a look at Blue Hisar (info@bluehisarapartcom) lovely family owned apartments. The 'Daddy is Huseyin and the son is Tekin. They also do airport transfers. We have been going there two three times a year since 1998 I now have to cart the whole family with me (ranging from grandchildren through to great garndparents)They cannot do enough for you. Basic but clean apartments and they are situated just beside the Dolmus roundabout so you have no problems getting a bus to Fethiye, Ou Denis etc. and also the ara where they are in pedestrianised at night - no probs for kids with traffic. (which is very little anyway). If yo do contact them tell them Denise from Newcastle recommended them.
