Just read on-line that one must have permission to bring cellular phone into Turkey. How is this done? What about bringing in a laptop computer? |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) You don't need permission to bring a mobile phone into Turkey. If you want to use your own phone, and it has roaming activated by your service provider it will work without any problem. However, if you want to use your own phone with a Turkish SIM Card, you should take the original receipt for the phone and your passport to a phone shop in Turkey and they will register on their computer system to enable you to use it. I think it costs about 5 YTL. If your phone isn't registered it will be blocked. This has been put into operation recently to stop the number of illegal imports into Turkey which have been loosing the government a substantial amount in tax and the phone companies income. There is also no problem with bringing your laptop into Turkey. Although, as with any country, it's always wise to have the receipt for it with you incase of queries by Customs. |
