Hi Everybody,

I`m hoping to move to Fethiye either at the end of this year or beginning of next year with my 9-year old son.
Would anybody please know a company (preferebly not too expensive one) which could ship over for me about 10 big boxes?

Did anybody obtain work permit? How did you do it?

So much to sort out but I will do it. For happier life...

Yvonne

Hi Yvonne,

With regards to shipping goods to Turkey. Before you can collect your items from the relevant port in Turkey you have to have a residancy permitt, to live in Turkey. I shipped goods over from the U.K & not one off the companys that I made enquires with or used, advised me off this. My goods sat in the port for 3 months whilst I applied for my residancy permit & every day the goods sat there, a charge was being levied. In the end I had to pay £3500.00 in charges for the amount off time my goods sat in the port whilst I was waiting for my residancy permit to be issued. I Wish some one had advised me off this before I shipped my goods over.
Good Luck

Hi!

I haven't had to apply for a work permit myself as I am a Turkish citizen and own my own company ... but I know the process and also a lot of people who've been through it ... basically, you need to have a contracted job with a company, and they apply for the work permit. All the paperwork is done via Ankara and it can take a long time to be processed ... you'll probably need to pay the costs of the application unless you are working for a large company who apply for all work permits on behalf of their foreign staff (which is pretty rare I think)and this year, a friend ended up paying around 500 Euros. When approving work permits, the powers that be consider whether the job the applicant will be doing could be just as well done by a Turkish citizen ... so success depends on that, as well as the usual variables of the civl service system!

I understand that there are occasionally changes to the system - and that permits can - in some years - be applied for via the Turkish Consulate in the UK but that a signed contract of employment is still required. So ... just to be sure, they are the best people to contact if you are serious about getting one. And until now, it isn't possible to gain a general work permit without that job contract .. again, check with the consulate to see if the rules have changed just in time for your arrival here ... you never can tell.

And good luck!

Karen
