It would be so much easier if Dalaman airport was open for 12 months of the year. I've heard a rumour that this is going to happen soon. Can anyone enlighten me?

Dalaman is already open all year, though not for flights direct from UK, I flew via Istanbul last Feb, you just arrive at the "shack" also known as domestic arrivals! However, there is a ski resort under construction in the mountains that may (or may not) be opening this coming winter, that should mean that there will be direct flights available

Hi Liz

Do you - or anyone else have any knowledge of where the ski resort is being or to be constructed? We too have heard rumours, but I thought it was some years off...

this post has been edited 2 time(s)

Rumours about a ski resort have abounded for years but (according to those rumours so don't all leap in to jeer if I'm wrong - I'm a boat person!) there are apparently tentative plans to develop one close to the village of Seki, which is about 45 minutes or so from Fethiye up in the mountains in the general direction of Antalya .. however, there is no local infrastructure to support such a project and little has been done development-wise as far as most on the ground know (though of course there may be some enormous project about to be unveiled, and who can predict what will happen next with development plans) so if you want to ski in Turkey, it's still Erzurum or Bursa. That's all I know so if anyone else is better informed ... this ski-fanatic is feeling sun-and-sand-lubbed and would also like to know!

On a more immediate note about flights to Dalaman in the winter (which is actually why I started ths reply)... check out wwwyabancicom - though the website is under construction right now, it does give their contact number / mail address, and they are the people to contact about flights from/to the UK as they REALLY know what they are doing and handle flights for a lot of the big operators both in Dalaman and Antalya all year around ....

Will there be a new terminal at Dalaman open next year? Have heard some rumours but don't know if they're true.

Hi Emma. Both ends of the tunnel are definately there - it just doesn't meet in the middle yet! Apparently its due for completion next Spring, and when finished will knock about 20 minutes of the journey from Dalaman to Fethiye.

Cool, if we can avoid some of those mountain roads it's gotta be a good thing!

Hi Emma - yes there are lots of new things coming at Dalaman - mainly a new larger interntaional terminal. Work is under-way .... so let's see how it all turns out. On the subject of flights this year, I have heard on several grapevines (including one person whose pre-booked flight at the beginning of December was cancelled) that the charter flights into Dalaman have been cancelled this winter ... anyone else heard the same?

Yes, quite a few have been cancelled, Onur Air giving the reason that there was not enough interest, I believe.
I will get you a list of the dates cancelled so far....

wwwh4ucouk have had to cancel some winter flights to Dalaman due to lack of interest,
The dates they have had to cancel are as follows

25th Nov;
2nd Dec;
9th Dec;
13th Jan;
20th Jan;
27th Jan;
3rd Feb.

This is a shame, many people have already used their holiday allowances from work this year, this may have resulted in the lack of bookings, hopefully they will give advanced details for next year. "

the nearest ski center to Fethiye is Davras Ski Center and there is a brand new hotel opening in December. You can get information from our office about christmas and new year programmes.
